Xbox 360: Fall update unleashed

Today, 1100hrs GMT+1, Microsoft launched the latest update to their Xbox 360 gaming console. Behold, the FALL UPDATE is upon us.

Some of the major features included in this update is:

  • Xbox Originals: Through Live Marketplace you can now purchase and download classic games from the original Xbox. At the time of writing this the following titles are available: Halo, Crimson Skies, Psychonauts, Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex, Fuzion Frenzy, Fahrenheit and Fable. At the moment each of these games cost 1200 Microsoft Points (just below NOK 100,-).
  • Xbox Live Arcade Hits: Some of the most popular arcade games will be re-released under this channel at reduced prices. At the time of writing this the following games are available: Bankshot Billiards 2 (800mp), Marble Blast Ultra (400mp), Zuma (400mp), Small Arms(400mp) and Lumines Live! (800mp).
  • Children play timer: Parents will now be able to predefine play times for their children. When play time nears the end the kids will be told to save their game. When the play time ends the console will shut down automatically.
  • Inside Xbox: A newsfeed containing news related to Xbox.
  • Twist: A new navigation menu in Live Marketplace, known from Zune (portable media player by Microsoft). Perhaps not a major update, but a little cool nonetheless.
  • DivX/XviD support: You will now be able to stream DivX and XviD content from Windows Media Center or Windows Media Player 11 (and I would assume from Orb and TVersity also). There are several other formats supported as well. For more info check out this blog.

I am as of yet not sure if you can re-download Xbox originals if you delete them without paying for them again. If someone knows this for sure, let me know 🙂
